VISION: To raise a generation of children with the capacity for critical thinking to increase their potential to affect their country and their world in a positive manner
VALUES: The Gift of Gambia is a humanitarian organization, guided in its philosophical outlook and day-to-day decisions by Biblical principles and a personal relationship with God the Father through His Son, Jesus Christ. Not everyone who works with us to support this cause ascribes to this belief system. We respect each individual person’s right to make life choices, free from any kind of pressure, as to the system of beliefs that they hold. However, we believe strongly that each person has a right to make an INFORMED choice. We believe that this is where the ‘critical thinking’ comes in. We welcome questions and believe our ministry exists not only for those we serve in the Gambia, but also for those who work alongside of us.
ABOUT
The Gift of Gambia started on a whim in November of 2009, with a FB contact by a young teacher, Mustapha Jallow, who was on-line looking for sponsers for the nursery day-care shool where he volunteers his time. A few friends and former colleagues agreed to ship one box of school supplies to the little school in NemaKunku, Gambia, West Africa. The box left here by Cda Post, Nov 26, 2009 and cost us $140.00 to ship. It was rcvd by the school January 12, 2010. Pictures of the school and receipt of the box can be viewed on this site. Meanwhile, we connected with a local QC school who wanted to partner up in order to send gifts to each child in the school. We received a list of the names of all the students in the school (about 100) and on June 30, 2010, another shipment of 7 large boxes was on its way. That shipment was received in Banjul, July 20th, and by the school July 24, 2010. Again, we received photos and videos to attest to the schools receipt of the goods. Since that time, we have connected with Ministry officials and a university professor which enables us to keep our finger on the pulse of educational issues at all levels. Most recently we have been able to ship over a full 40' ocean container of school supplies to the little school. We are very grateful for those who have taken the time to assist us in this new endeavour. We also wish to express our thanks to all those who have volunteered their time and finances in order to make this dream a reality. |
